Design Engineer | Caledonia, MI

Salary Range: $71,000 - $110,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

We partner with manufacturers across Caledonia seeking Design Engineers who want more than a lateral move. These companies hire intentionally, and we connect them with professionals ready for roles that fit.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop new products, components, or systems from concept to production, optimizing for manufacturing processes.
• Create detailed 2D engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and specifications using industry-standard software.
• Conduct design analysis, including material selection, stress calculations, and tolerance stack-ups, to ensure product performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, production, and quality teams to implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
• Manage the Bill of Materials (BOM) and technical documentation, ensuring accuracy and adherence to engineering standards.
• Participate in prototype development, testing, and validation to refine designs and resolve technical challenges.
• Investigate and implement continuous improvement opportunities for existing products and manufacturing processes.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related technical field.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA) for design, modeling, and drafting.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication) and materials science.
• Demonstrated experience applying Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
• Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards and their application.
• Proven ability to take designs from concept through to production, including prototyping and testing.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or other simulation software.
• Advanced understanding and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Hands-on prototyping, assembly, or testing experience.
• Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles or Six Sigma methodologies.
