Job Title: Information Center Representative

Dept: University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Student Union

Work Location: Union (EG05)

Guest Services and Information Coordinator

Scope: The Union Information Center provides students, parents, and guests of the university with information regarding the Union, the UWM campus, and the community. The Information Center is committed to providing accurate information and ensuring that all visitors feel welcome on our campus.

Qualifications:

  • The ability to provide timely and direct customer service to all patrons in a diverse setting.
  • The ability to exercise good judgment and initiative in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must present themselves in a professional manner and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Possess adequate computer skills.
  • Must possess good organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Receive, intervene, and resolve customer questions, complaints and/or disputes, which may include the involvement of other department supervisors and/or the University Police.
  • Provide building users with daily Union events and campus activity information.
  • Monitor the Information Center telephones to include fielding questions, forwarding calls, and taking messages.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of building events and operations, to ensure accurate information is being passed on to customers.
  • Sort mail daily and ensure that it is put in the appropriate departments mailbox.
  • Reserving meeting room reservations for student organizations and university departments.
  • Maintain knowledge of all applicable federal, state, local, and University Rules and Regulations including all Union Policies and Procedures to provide a consistent, professional image to the students, staff, and building users.
  • Outreach to various departments in the union and throughout the campus to ensure customers are provided with the most accurate information possible.
  • Operate as a contact center for union departments and relay information to and from departments as necessary.
  • Additional duties as requested by supervisors.

Additional Duties:

  • Must be able to make conscious, rational decisions with little or no supervision.
  • Operate and maintain a cash register for transactions of event invoices, tickets, and additional services.
  • Assist in building emergencies as needed in a timely fashion.
  • Check all student identification for access to offices and/or student organizations.
  • Maintain and inventory lost and found items as directed.
  • Possess working knowledge and utilize all paging systems, to include two-way radio base station.
  • Additional duties as requested by supervisors.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of thirty pounds.
  • Ability to remain standing for long periods of time.

Working Hours (during the academic year):

  • Monday - Saturday: 7:00am-10:15pm
  • Sunday: 9:00am-10:00pm
  • Must be able to work at minimum 10 hours per week.
  • Maximum number of hours per week is 25 during the academic year. Up to 40 during summer break. Note, there is no guarantee that you will be able to hit the maximum number of hours per week. That all depends on number of staff and everyone's schedules.
  • Expected to start late June or early July.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends.

Working Hours (during the summer):

  • Currently looking for summer staff who can continue working with us in the Fall semester.

Training Requirements (to be completed in first 120 days of employment):

  • PCI certification
  • Information Security Awareness
  • Sexual Harassment Prevention (Title IX)
  • FERPA and/or Mandated Reporter
  • Workplace Bullying Policy
  • UWM Information Center Staff Training will be the week of August 18, 2025
