Welcome to Stanford’s Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation ("DAPER"), the premier intercollegiate athletics program in the country. With a record of 138 NCAA team championships, DAPER is the proud Home of Champions and supports nearly 900 student‑athletes across 36 varsity teams. Responsibilities Clean and bed stalls (25-35 stalls each day) Use pitchfork to pick up manure, twisting torso 180° to deposit in wheelbarrow. Push loaded wheelbarrow up to 200’. Dump, reload with shavings, stand or walk up to 2 hours at a time. Turnout horses Reach up to place halter on horse’s head (up to 6’). Walk horse up to 500’ to paddock. Feed horses Climb up hay to help push 5-10 bales onto ground. Lift or help lift 7 hay bales weighing in excess of 80 lbs into Gator. Drive Gator and stop at each stall to pick up flake of hay and throw into stall. Clean and maintain barn fixtures and common areas Clean Round Pen, paddocks, and Eurosicer. Use pitchfork to pick up manure and load into Gator. Use hose to wash down arena walls. Operate the farm tractor and perform site maintenance Pick up large 20‑30 gal tubs of manure and sand, load into Gator for disposal. Get onto tractor, stepping up 3’ and pulling self up to seat. Sit for up to 1 hour at a time. Turn/look 180° over shoulder every 5 minutes to ensure even harrowing. Bend down/squat for 30‑60 minutes to help trade out harrow teeth. Blanket and unblanket horses, depending on season. Assist with any projects assigned by the Barn Manager. Work closely with the Barn Manager to ensure the general well‑being and safety of the facility and its horses. Qualifications Strong work ethic and ethical conduct. Experience working closely with horses and knowledge of stable operations. Detail‑oriented and able to work independently. Fluent English and/or computer literacy is a plus.
