Job Description

Job Title: Special Education Teacher – MMSN (SDC - Special Day Class)

Location: Kelseyville, CA – Middle School Site

Hours: 7:45 AM – 3:15 PM

Reports To: Building Site Principal

Supervises: Special Education Aide

Assignment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview:

Kelseyville Unified School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to serve students with mild to moderate support needs (MMSN) in a Special Day Class (SDC) setting at the middle school level. The primary role is to provide direct instruction and support to students requiring special education services for less than 50% of their instructional day, and to collaborate with staff and families to ensure student success.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction using specialized techniques, equipment, and materials tailored to the individualized needs of students.
  • Serve as an active member of the IEP Team, contributing to assessments, instructional planning, implementation, and monitoring student progress.
  • Prepare and adapt instructional materials and assistive devices to facilitate participation in the general education classroom.
  • Participate in Student Study Team (SST) meetings to help identify and address student needs.
  • Maintain compliance with all aspects of the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), including documentation and communication with stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to the assigned Special Education Aide.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to promote inclusive educational practices and support student growth.
  • Participate in professional development and district-level meetings as required.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Offer consultative support to classroom teachers and parents to facilitate appropriate strategies and accommodations.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive school climate by promoting student independence, self-advocacy, and social-emotional development.

Qualifications:

  • Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential (Mild/Moderate Support Needs - MMSN).
  • Authorization to work with middle school grade levels.
  • Strong understanding of special education law, IEP development, and instructional best practices.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
