Title: Social Media Content Intern (Fall 2025)

D ivision: Marketing & Communications

Reports to: Director of Marketing Content Strategy

Position Status: Part-time; Non-Exempt

Hourly rate: $12.41/hour

The Social Media Content Intern will support the museum's digital engagement strategy by researching and creating original content that connects the museum's mission with both evergreen topics and real-time social trends. This is an ideal role for an undergraduate or graduate student with a strong interest in history and a passion for creative digital storytelling.  

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Content Research, Development & Creation: Conduct original research using VMHC collections and credible historical sources; translate complex history into accessible, engaging content; develop content calendars; draft compelling copy and visuals for social media platforms.
• Trend & Platform Strategy: Monitor platform trends to identify timely opportunities; create trend-responsive posts that maintain historical integrity; tailor content based on platform best practices and audience behavior; build a library of evergreen content.
• Collaboration & Cross-Department Coordination: Work with collections, education, and marketing teams to ensure content accuracy and alignment with institutional goals; participate in planning meetings; coordinate with multimedia staff for visual asset production.
• Documentation & Archiving: Maintain an organized archive of research, drafts, and published material.
• Perform other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Necessary:

• Strong research and writing skills; ability to synthesize and creatively present historical information.
• Familiarity with inclusive and accurate historical representation.
• Organized, curious, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
• Demonstrated interest in social media platforms and digital storytelling (experience creating or managing content is a plus).

Education & Experience Requirements:

• Current undergraduate or graduate student, majoring in History, Museum Studies, Public History, or a related field.
