Job Title: Manufacturing Shift Manager

Location: N Preston St, Philadelphia, PA

Department: Warehouse

Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Job Summary:

The Manufacturing Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the manufacturing floor during the second shift. This role is hands-on, with the supervisor spending most of their time on the floor, monitoring production performance, and resolving issues in real time. The supervisor coordinates closely with the Production Manager to receive shift production goals, assigns tasks to the team, and ensures goals are met in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. This role also involves managing personnel-related issues, troubleshooting equipment or tool problems, and ensuring the team adheres to safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with excellent problem-solving skills, a focus on productivity, and a commitment to fostering a positive, engaged team.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Supervision

  • Lead and support manufacturing team members throughout the shift.
  • Assign tasks, set expectations, and ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
  • Monitor individual and team performance and address any issues with professionalism and clarity.
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentorship for both new and existing team members.

Production Oversight

  • Coordinate and oversee daily manufacturing operations, including material flow, production line activities, and equipment usage.
  • Resolve production issues such as missing parts, machine downtime, or scheduling conflicts.
  • Ensure shift goals are met while maintaining a high standard of workmanship and product integrity.
  • Make real-time decisions to adjust workflow as necessary to meet changing demands.

Communication & Coordination

  • Act as the primary point of contact between the shift team and upper management.
  • Record and communicate shift performance metrics, equipment status, staffing issues, and material needs.
  • Participate in pre- and post-shift meetings to ensure alignment across departments and shifts.
  • Address production disruptions and reassign tasks to maintain workflow.
  • Manage attendance, conflicts, and performance concerns, escalating when necessary.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve malfunctions, working with maintenance as needed.
  • Oversee end-of-shift clean-up and secure the facility, providing a shift report.

Quality & Safety

  • Enforce all workplace safety rules and ensure that team members follow established safety procedures.
  • Conduct visual inspections of work in progress and finished goods to uphold quality standards.
  • Ensure only trained, certified personnel operate machinery and equipment.
  • Identify safety risks and production inefficiencies and escalate or resolve as appropriate.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 3+ years supervisor, team lead or management experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Preferred Second shift management experience.
  • Warehouse and Shipping experience a plus.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership, delegation, and motivational skills.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, tools, and safety regulations.
  • Competency with basic computer programs and production tracking tools.
  • Forklift certification is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for the entire shift.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks as required.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
