We are looking for the right person to join our team as a Part-Time Legal Assistant. The individual selected for this position will have the opportunity to see what goes into preparing civil collection cases for litigation. The selected candidate will be directly supervised by, and have daily interaction with, In-House Counsel. Much of the work is clerical in nature, but will be representative of what a paralegal, new attorney, or what a solo practitioner does on a daily basis.

What You'll Do:

• Assist In-House Counsel and Accounts Receivable team process collection actions in Michigan District and Circuit Courts. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Assist with managing and tracking case flow
• Draft court forms
• Draft breach of contract complaints
• Prepare exhibits
• Receive and organize documents from court clerks
• Maintain casefiles
• Prepare pre-trial motions
• Draft discovery requests
• Send correspondence via certified mail

What We Need:

• Sophomore-level or higher college student or collage graduate
• Must be able to work in-person and have reliable transportation
• Available to work in-person 15 to 20 hours a week, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 9 am to 2 pm (approximate requirements - may be adjusted based on schedule and availability)
• Proficient with Microsoft Office products and Adobe
• Ability to follow instructions and prepare documentation with close attention to detail
• Comfortable making phone calls to customers/court staff
• Hard working and highly motivated
• Once trained, partial remote work may be possible

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to remain sitting in a stationary position for prolonged periods
• Requires the ability to move about inside the office
• Must be able to move items weighing up to 25 pounds
• Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, customers, vendors, and the public
• Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer

Hours/Schedule:

Part-time, 16-20 hours per week/52 weeks per year. Standard hours are Tues & Wed, 9:00 - 4:30 but due to cyclical nature of position, some overtime, including evening and weekend hours, will be required to complete projects under deadlines. Some local and statewide travel may be required.
