Job Description

BAE Systems is hiring a Director of Finance for our Ship Repair business in San Diego, CA. The Director will join our senior leadership team at San Diego Ship Repair, a leading provider of ship repair services with a strong reputation for quality and reliability. As a Director of Finance, you will be at the forefront of financial planning and analysis, playing a critical role in shaping the organization's financial strategy. The Director of Finance is a vital member of our senior leadership team and is responsible for partnering with the VP/General Manager, providing strategic recommendations to achieve both the annual operating plans (AOP) and 5-year Forecasts.

In this role, you will work on a wide range of financial projects, from financial planning and forecasting to analysis and reporting. Your daily functions include leading a team of finance professionals, including estimators and FP&A specialists, gathering and analyzing financial data, preparing reports, and developing financial models to support business decisions. You will develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support growth and optimization. Additionally, you'll develop estimates and manage proposal development, working closely with sales, operations, and engineering teams to develop accurate and timely financial proposals that meet customer needs and support growth.

You will be a key member of our finance team, providing leadership to drive growth, optimize performance, and develop successful proposals. Your ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and develop strategic recommendations will shape your career. You will work on high-impact projects such as financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and identifying cost savings and process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the San Diego Ship Repair organization
  • Provide financial oversight, guidance, and leadership to the team
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Finance team, driving key performance indicators
  • Develop and implement financial plans and strategies to support growth
  • Analyze financial performance and provide strategic recommendations
  • Lead financial reporting activities including monthly closing, program and business reviews, forecasting, variance analysis, financial controls, and spend tracking
  • Manage proposal development ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Develop business cases for CapEx investments with financial analysis and ROI calculations
  • Develop and manage financial estimates and proposals
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather data and develop cost estimates
  • Provide financial leadership to support business outcomes and proposals
  • Identify cost savings and process improvements
  • Communicate financial data regularly to leadership
  • Manage employee development and recognition activities

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting and 12 years of experience, or equivalent
  • Experience in financial management, planning, budgeting, and forecasting
  • People management experience including mentorship and development
  • Knowledge of financial compliance and controls (CAS, GAAP)
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM)
  • Experience preparing proposals for various contract types
  • Experience working with external auditors (DCAA, DCMA)
  • Ability to develop strategic plans and lead cross-functional teams
  • Strong decision-making and interpersonal skills
  • Data analytics and reporting skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Master's Degree
  • Professional certifications (CPA, CFA)
  • Experience in ship repair or maritime industry
  • Experience with Navy fixed-price contracts
  • Defense program finance expertise
  • Knowledge of FAR and government regulations
  • Experience in proposal development and EVMS software (Cobra, MPM)
  • Experience with financial software (ERP, planning systems)
  • ProPricer estimating software experience
  • Power BI or Tableau experience

Pay Information

Salary range: $135,556 - $230,444

This range reflects market pay structures; actual salary depends on various factors including skills, education, experience, and internal considerations.
