Job Description

Basic Function

Provides comprehensive research and analysis of criminal data received by Criminal Intelligence Analysts and case Investigators to gather new information and/or to discover criminal relationships. Research organized crime patterns and/or drug trafficking networks. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties
  • Research & Analysis: Conducts comprehensive research and analysis on criminal data provided by investigators and intelligence sources to identify patterns, relationships, and trends in criminal activity, including organized crime, drug trafficking, white-collar crime, and other criminal conspiracies.
  • Data Correlation & Integration: Evaluates and correlates new information with existing data, which may include criminal records, financial records, medical history, vehicle details, telephone records, and gun traces, to locate suspects and witnesses and support ongoing investigations.
  • Criminal Link Analysis: Compiles and analyzes data to establish links between criminals, criminal activities, and organized crime groups, providing actionable intelligence for case investigations and operational strategies.
  • Report Generation: Prepares, edits, and revises detailed reports, special projects, and publications on criminal associations and crime patterns. These reports support law enforcement efforts in managing organized crime investigations and uncovering complex criminal activities.
  • Subpoena Requests & Surveillance: Initiates subpoenas to gather intelligence on suspects, as well as to monitor ongoing criminal activities, ensuring that investigative efforts comply with legal standards.
  • Collaboration: Interfaces with intelligence counterparts from other agencies, including federal, state, and local law enforcement organizations, to ensure the sharing of relevant information and updates on active investigations.
  • Recommendations & Workflow Improvement: Evaluates and provides recommendations for improving investigative workflows, processes, and procedures to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of intelligence-gathering operations.
  • Testifying in Court: Provides expert testimony in court regarding findings and analysis related to criminal investigations when required.
  • Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
  • Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agencys Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
    Pay Range: $54,300 - $71,200
Education Requirement

Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Science, Statistics, or a closely related field required.

Years & Experience Required

A minimum of two years of experience as a Criminal Intelligence Analyst. A minimum of four years of related experience in law enforcement or a position requiring analytical and practical skills relevant to criminal investigations and intelligence work.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Advanced knowledge of business intelligence tools, databases, and statistical methods used in criminal intelligence analysis. Proficient understanding of police terminology, uniform crime report codes, and penal codes. Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data and make strategic recommendations based on findings. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of producing clear, concise reports and presenting findings effectively. Knowledge of subpoena processes and legal frameworks for intelligence gathering. Certification in Criminal Intelligence Analysis or related fields (e.g., International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA) certification) or Other relevant certifications in law enforcement or intelligence analysis preferred.

This position requires a background check. Common disqualifiers include, but are not limited to:
Class A or Felony conviction or court-ordered supervision or probation regardless of date of conviction.
Class B conviction or court-ordered supervision or probation within the past 10 years.
